Definition: Any unit suffering from internal dissension will not be able to resist external pressures
Abraham Lincoln used this proverb in his political speech but as Malaysians, the history lessons we studied did not go that far, therefore I will not touch about why Abraham Lincoln used that proverb in his speech.
This proverb rings true in every household. If there are always arguments and misunderstandings in the house, especially between parents, and parents do not handle them properly, any slandering remarks from extended family members will definitely blow things out of proportion. Gossips from friends without serious discussion with the better half to check on the validity of such flying rumours will only make matters worse. A family unit that either does not agree with one another or has trust issue will end up being a broken unit. It is a home without unity, a home with nothing to glue it together to stay intact no matter what blows from the outside.
Therefore, a house that is divided against itself cannot stand.
